Science

Science is taught through discrete topics which covers the outcomes of the National Curriculum, supported by a clear skills and knowledge progression. This ensures that skills and knowledge are built on year by year and sequenced appropriately to maximise learning for all children. The children are given the opportunity to recap and revisit their learning from their current year and also previous years. The launch of science topics develop and secure children’s understanding of what science is and to create a wow moment that creates awe and wonder and makes children ask questions.

We ensure that all children are provided with rich learning experiences that aim to:

  • Prepare our children for life in an increasingly scientific and technological world today and in the future.
  • Help our children acquire a growing understanding of the nature, processes and methods of scientific ideas.
  • Build on our children’s natural curiosity and developing a scientific approach to problems.
  • Encouraging open-mindedness, perseverance and developing the skills of investigation – including: observing, measuring, predicting, hypothesising, experimenting, communicating, interpreting, explaining and evaluating.
  • Develop the use of scientific language, recording and techniques.
  • Make links between science and other subjects.
