Hello and welcome to our Reception page. We have a fabulous Reception team at Maple Court. Our teachers are Miss Dykes & Miss Clarke. We also have three amazing support staff, Mrs Seadon, Mrs Whiston and Miss Brammer.
We are a hardworking, kind and friendly year group who love coming to school and learning new things. In Reception, we build lots of new friendships and learn how to be good friends. We do lots of busy learning and we love all of the exciting activities that we do with our friends and teachers.
This year, we will be exploring the following topics:
- Why Do Squirrels Hide Their Nuts
- What Happens When I Fall Asleep
- Let’s Be Friends
- Do Cows Drive Milk?
- Are Carrots Orange?
- Are We There Yet?
Each half term, we will send out a topic leaflet to tell you all of the exciting things we will be learning during our topics.
In Reception, we have a big focus on developing our communication and language skills. We use the Talk for Writing approach in our English lessons. We create lots of story maps, learn and rehearse many stories and use actions to help us retell stories. We use our oral rehearsal to help us retell stories by writing sentences for the beginning, middle and end of the story. This year, we will be focusing on the texts below as well as exploring some non-fiction texts.
- The Busy Little Squirrel
- The Little Red Hen
- Owl Babies
- The Tiger Who Came to Tea
- The Way Back Home
- Handa’s Surprise
- Three Billy Goats Gruff
- Peace at Last
- Whatever Next
- The Night Pirates
Life in Reception
In Reception it is very exciting because we learn to become brilliant readers. It is really important that you read at home at least three times a week. This will help you to practice the sounds we are learning in school and to spot the tricky words that we learn. If you read five times a week then you become a reading wizard and will earn prizes!
Our PE lessons are on Fridays. Please come to school in your full Maple Court PE kit on a Friday.
