Welcome to the class/year group

We are a happy, confident group of 21 children who share our beautiful classroom with Mrs Ball and Mrs Barker. We work hard and try our best, and even when we find things difficult we us our Maple Values to give us the resilience we need to keep trying.

Our Learning in Year 3:

In the Spring term in year 3 we are learning about the Ancient Egyptians, and we have started to learn many interesting facts! Our favourite lessons are guided reading, science and PE. We read lots of fabulous books in class, and our teachers read to us every day. We are lucky enough to have 20 laptops to use in our classroom, so we will be able to improve our computing skills this year! One of our favourite things to do is go on Times Table Rock Stars, both at home and during our reward time on a Friday. We are doing really well learning our times tables, and using this website really helps us!

Routines and key information:

Books and diaries should be brought into school every day. Each morning we have DEAR time where we ‘Drop Everything And Read’, this is when our teachers hear us read and check if we have read at least 5 times a week.

In addition, children should read at home at least three times a week and reading diaries must be signed showing this.

PE is on a Friday, and we are learning how to balance in gymnastics.

Our class novel is Danny Champion of the World by Roald Dahl.

Welcome to the class:

Welcome to 3R. Miss Robson is very excited to teach Year 3, alongside Mrs Ball, Miss Leese and Mrs Barker in 3B and 3L.

At Maple Court Academy, we follow our MAPLE Values, and we use these values every day to be the best learners that we can be.

Our Learning in Year 3:

In Year 3 we follow an exciting and diverse curriculum including lots of different subjects. In History, we learn about the Three Ages; the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age and Ancient Egypt. We read texts linked to this topic and we use our enquiry skills to learn about the past. In Geography, we will be using our map skills, as well as learning about the local area. In Science we will be learning about plants and animals and how to plan and carry out scientific investigations. In Art and Design Technology, we will have the chance to make and create, as well as learn about famous artists.

Now that we are in Key Stage 2, we will begin to learn French. This is very exciting, and we are looking forward to greeting you with our French language skills.

We are also lucky enough to have 20 laptops to use in our classroom, so we will be able to improve our computing skills this year! We use Google classroom in our computing lessons.
