Welcome to 2S

Welcome to Year 2, class 2S.  We are a fun, lively bunch who work really hard and always do our best.  We are proud to show the MAPLE values at all times. We enjoy school and learning and are working hard to be ready to move into Key Stage 2 next year.

What we are learning – Spring Term:

In the Spring term in Year 2 we are looking at ‘Famous Faces’ in History.  Our Geography is still focussed on London, as well as identifying countries in the U.K. on a map and naming capital cities.  We are thinking about what makes London a popular tourist destination.  Art is based on Van Gogh’s landscapes, and in DT we are designing and making a place mat for King Charles!  In Science we are learning all about animals and their habitats.  It’s always busy in Year 2!

Routines and key information – e.g. cost of toast, the days reading books are changed etc .

Reading books are collected in and changed on a Friday, although children are expected to bring these in to school every day.

We ask the children to read at least 3 times a week at home and record these reads in their reading diary – although 5 times a week is even better!

Toast can be purchased daily at breaktime.  The cost of this is 35p a day and the money needs to be put on the children’s parentmail account.

We have PE every Monday morning and it is very important that EVERY child has a PE kit in school ready to take part in PE.

All children receive a piece of fruit, free of charge, during our afternoon session.

We enjoy our learning and making school fun and enjoyable for everyone.

What we are learning – Spring Term:

This term in Year 2 we are learning about London and comparing it to our local area for Geography.  In History, we are leaning about Famous Faces. We will look at Florence Nightingale, Neil Armstrong, Martin Luther King JR, and Captain James Cook. We will look at why they are famous, what they did and why they are still remembered today. DT this term is all about textiles and we will be making a place mat to celebrate King Charles II.
Art is all about how different artists have used colours to create their work, and how they have mixed colours together to create new shades.
