  • Children are expected to read at least 5 times per week at home (please sign the diary to show this has happened).
  • Class Dojo is used as a communication between school and home – speak to one of us if you are not connected.
  • PE is on Friday
  • Swimming is on Wednesday.
  • Children may come to school in their PE kit on PE/Swimming days.
  • Every child needs a water bottle in school which we can refill during the day.
  • If someone different is collecting your child, please ensure they have your secret password to give to the teacher.

English

Guided reading, spelling and handwriting sessions all support the main English lessons. This year we are using Grammarsaurus for our spelling sessions, and pen-pals for our handwriting.

Our English sessions will be based around the following texts:

  • Autumn: True story of the three little pigs and Stone Age Boy
  • Spring:  The boy who stole the pharaohs lunch and Augustus and his smile
  • Summer: The Great Kapok Tree

Maths

In Year 3, the children learn to count to 1000 and understand place value using hundreds, tens and ones. We practise adding and subtracting numbers up to 1000, and begin learning multiplication and division with the 3, 4, 6, and 8 times tables. We will explore fractions and Measurement including length, weight, volume, money. We will also continue to practise telling the time. Geometry covers 2D and 3D shapes, symmetry, and position. The children will have access to Times-table Rockstars (TTRS) to support their understanding of times-tables, and we will be completing assertive mentoring sessions during our Big Maths lesson on a Friday morning.

Wider Curriculum

In Year 3, we follow an exciting and diverse curriculum including lots of different subjects. In History, we learn about the Three Ages; the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age and Ancient Egypt. We read texts linked to this topic and we use our enquiry skills to learn about the past, and discover how different life use to be.

In Geography, we will be using our map skills, as well as learning about our local area. In Science we will be learning all about the human skeleton, fossils, forces and how to plan and carry out scientific investigations. In Art and Design Technology, we will have the chance to make and create, learn about famous artists and improve our drawing skills!

Now that we are in Key Stage 2, we will begin to learn French. This is very exciting, and we are looking forward to greeting you with our French language skills.

We are also lucky enough to each have own Chromebook to use in our classroom, so we will be able to improve our computing skills this year!
